My English Bulldog dressed up at the Wizard of Oz Wicked Witch of the West FLYING MONKEY!Sophie is a working dog and has many responsibilities. Being a certified Therapy Dog, Sophie goes into the pediatric wards of the local hospitals and visits with the kids who are in for surgeries, illness', or whatever may bring them in. She also goes to the Veteran's Memorial Home and visits the Vets as many are not able to see their own pets, seeing ours certainly brightens their days. Sophie also does a Reading with Rover Program at a local library- where the children are nominated by their principals, teachers, or families that struggle with their reading abilities. They spend 45 minutes reading to the dogs as the dogs are not going to judge them on missed words. Which helps bring their confidence up in so many ways. Sophie is also a Registered Service dog. Sophie notifies me when it is time to take my medications- as often times I will forget to take them getting caught up in work, kids, or doctor appt. She also is a medical alert in she notifies me during the night if there were an emergency, fire or burglar in the house, she alerts me when my children wake up during the middle of the night. Some of the medications I have to take for my illness put me in such a heavy sleep that I don't wake up when they do. My husband is a local officer, works nights so is not home in case something were to happen. Sophie also holds another very important role. She is an Ambassador for a local/national company called Bo & DeeMo. Bo & DeeMo is a couture apparel and accessories line just for the Bully breeds. Bo & DeeMo also helps raise awareness to our consumers as well as the community the importance of being knowledge about the Bully breeds as well as getting the correct message across as many people are under the misunderstanding that Bully breeds are all mean and love to fight. Sophie does Red Carpet Runway Fashion Shows, models, and appears and the events Bo & DeeMo hold which could be Boutique openings, Halloween Events, Fundraisers, etc.As far as Sophie's Flying Monkey costume goes- my youngest daughter has wanted to be Dorothy this year for over a year now. She decided then what each and everyone was going to dress up as. With our English Bulldog being a Flying Monkey. Of course there are no stores, websites, or costume makers that make the Flying Monkey costume... so I had to make it myself. I hand made it with the help of 2 costumes that included a Bellboy costume and a Gorilla costume. Of course there was a lot of alterations made. As it needed to be custom fit for a Bulldog. I took the arms and cut them down to attach to the sleeve area for the arms of the monkey, used boy short underwear- covered it with the fur, then cut down the legs so she would have bottoms, attached it all together as the bottoms would not stay on without being attached to the top... now being I do not own a sewing machine- I hand stitched everything that I had done. It was a lot of work, plenty of sweat and blood shed! But all worth it in the end!
