Being a freelance writer means hours spent at the computer. I’m used to this, as are the other three dogs; they all grew up on my working schedule. However I’m real busy right now and have an adolescent puppy. Those two things can be a disaster in the making.
Now I can’t complain; I really can’t. Sisko has fit into our household very well and when I sit at the computer, he finds his spot and settles down. With four dogs and four directions on the compass, I’m covered. Bashir is under my desk, Riker is to my left watching down the hall, and Archer is to my right. That leaves Sisko behind me, and that’s the spot he settles in.
But Sisko can’t do this all day; after a couple of hours he gets antsy, wanders around, brings me in a stick from outside, nudges my arm for attention, and I can’t blame him. So we go outside, I throw the ball, and help him use up some energy. But a young healthy Aussie doesn’t wear out that quickly. We go for a walk every morning but their hard exercise is in the afternoon when I finish work and go out to the training yard for classes.
So thank doG for food-dispensing toys. They are keeping Sisko occupied when he gets antsy and allowing me to continue working when he’s restless. Of course the other three dogs are happy, too, because they get a toy at the same time.
And I’m having fun loading them with different stuff. Peanut butter is my standby as all the dogs like it and no one has any bad reactions to it. But inside I will stuff some homemade dog treats, pieces of bully sticks, dried beef, apple slices, or chunks of cheese.
Today I was feeling generous — or imaginative, not sure which. One end of each toy was plugged up with peanut butter. Then I put in a half dozen slices of carrots, some home made Honest Kitchen treats, some chunks of cheese, and then I sealed up the other end with cream cheese. Seriously, I was debating whether to keep the toys for myself.
