Yesterday at the Kindred Spirits Dog Training yard I decided to cut a bouquet of roses before getting ready for the puppy class.
Eight rose bushes are planted to the side of our entrance gate and this year they are amazing, covered with colorful blossoms. The bushes are mature now and the entrance to the training yard is gorgeous when these are in bloom.
So as Bashir and Sisko were running and playing, I ambled down to the shed where the garden stuff is kept.
I got a pair of pruning shears, a bucket, and went to work on the roses. I dead-headed them, picked a dozen or so blooms with long stems, and watered the bushes.
Bashir was close at hand as I was doing all this but then he normally is. He’s always close by. As I finished and began walking back up to the office I didn’t see Sisko. I wasn’t worried, though, as he doesn’t tend to stick as close as Bashir. When I walked down he had been sniffing for rabbits so I figured he had flushed one or two.
However, apparently Sisko was worried. As I got close to the office, I saw him sitting in the office yard. He was sitting very prettily, back legs tucked under, front legs close together, his body all pulled in, compact, and very worried.
I called out to him, “What’s wrong, Sisko?” I thought maybe he got stung by a bee.
But hearing my voice and seeing me, he exploded into action, jumping up, legs going every which way, and he dashed towards me with every atom of his body displaying happiness. As he reached me, wiggling and wiggling, I talked to him and tried to pet him. But he spun in circles in front of me with ears cupped, mouth open, and stub of a tail vibrating.
Apparently I had been lost but now I was found, and he was very happy about that!
