Its that time again, when the summer heat begins to relent to fall, its that time for “dog festival season” here. There are so many events to choose from that are centered around our k-9 pals. Last weekend I went to Wag! Fest with Rufus and my friend Laura and her greyhound. I went to Wag! Fest a few years ago with Brutus, but this is my first time in a few years. Rufus and I had a wonderful time! The weather was perfect and cool enough that we were able to stay for a little over an hour.
One of the festival’s sponsors (Kroger) came up with the most ingenious ideas ever, an ICE CASTLE! Well, its not actually a “castle”, but a large pop-up canopy tent with dozens and dozens of bags of ice on the ground for the dogs to cool down. Absolutely brilliant! Rufus loved it and was clearly the King of the Ice Castle. He was getting pretty hot and this was a welcome sight for his puppy eyes. He walked in and promptly laid down on top of the ice with the other dogs to cool down. I think the blissful look in his eyes says it all, THANK YOU KROGER!!!
I had forgotten how much I like this event and could kick myself for missing the last couple of years. There is always a remarkably large turn out of big dogs. We saw dozens of English Mastiffs and Bernese Mountain Dogs (BMD), a few Great Danes, Newfies and even 4 other Saint Bernards! Rufus was the only one there sporting a barrel though. We got lots of questions about where we had gotten and of course if there was any booze in it. Sorry folks, no booze – I drank it all… lol (Our Barrels came from Dan “the Kegman” Jordan on Ebay -LINK)
Rufus even took a dip in the swimming area to round out his fabulous day…..
