Run and Hide, Dogs! It’s National Dress Up Your Pet Day

Don't let them do this -- or worse -- to you, fellow Dogster dogs! Run and hide 'til midnight! Don't let them do this -- or worse -- to you, fellow Dogster dogs! Run and hide 'til midnight!

Dearest Dogster dogs, Jake here. I’m writing today to forewarn you that today (Jan. 14) is National Dress Up Your Pet Day. If you are like me, you will seek out some floorspace in the closet that no one ever opens in your home and stay firmly hidden all day until the clock strikes midnight. As you can see above, I wasn’t always so savvy.

Some of you may actually enjoy getting dressed up, just as some humans enjoy jumping out of airplanes. But many, many of us feel otherwise. If a simple shirt in the picture above can make a dog look so ridiculous, getting dressed in a doggy costume or frou frou outfit will send a dog to therapy for life. Tell this to your people. Let them know how expensive dog therapy is.

But even as I write this, I must admit that there are some pretty funny photos of costume-clad dogs out there. If nothing else, the photos make me happy I am not among my unfortunate canine kith and kin who could not escape their dress-up fate.

Here are some from a post on one of my favorite dog photo websites, I Can Has Cheezburger. You can find the rest of the photos on the link in the last sentence and witness just how humiliating this day is for some among us. Then bow your head and give thanks that you do not look like them. (And if you do look like them today, please accept my condolences, and leave a comment to let us know how you are faring. Remember, a day is only 24 hours long. You sleep through 18 or 19 of those hours, so it’s not as bad as all that…I hope that was comforting.)
