Photos We Love: 10 Dogs in Life Jackets

Not all dogs can swim or even like the water -- but they're all cute when wearing life vests.

I know what you're saying. You're saying, "But wait! I thought all dogs know how to swim!"

That's what I thought, too, but then I saw this photo of the Infamous Miss B in a life jacket and it occurred to me that, duh, not all dogs know how to swim, not all dogs can swim, and not all dogs even like the water.

I know it's the last month of summer, but that's what makes it even more important to be safe.

Just ask these 10 dogs.

Do you put a life jacket on your dog? Where did you get yours? In the U.S., there are no regulations for pet life jackets, so make sure you do your research.

Photos: Celebrity Pups and People Hit the Red Carpet for Last Night’s Golden Collar Awards

Last night, Dogster News Editor Maria Goodavage and photographer Nanette Gonzales attended the first ever Golden Collar Awards in Los Angeles. Maria’s already got a great post up with the highlights, but we thought Nanette’s fabulous event photos deserved a post of their own.

Photos We Love: Free Kibble for the West Coast

Ellen DeGeneres and the folks at freekibble.com pledged to donate 400,000 meals to shelter pets across the country. Our friend Caroline Golon, who is helping get this food into the hands of shelters and rescues, alerted us that two of the Holiday Kibble Drop’s stops would be on Dogster’s home coast.

Just last Friday, a truck full of Halo pet food arrived at the Orange County Humane Society for distribution among area shelters, and on Monday, the truck pulled into San Francisco’s Pet Food Express with a similar goal. Some of our favorite local rescues (Muttville, Rocket Dog Rescue, and PAWS to name a few) are on the receiving list, and we couldn’t be happier for all the pups.

Photos: Our Marketing Gals Bring the Adoption Message to NYC Advertising Week

SAY Media (Dogster’s pawesome parent company) is at the IAB MIXX conference for NYC Advertising Week, and to channel Dogster’s core values, they invited the Brooklyn Animal Foster Network to join them and host a mini adoption event at their booth!

The fine folks at BAFN brought five kittens and three pups, and with any luck, some of them will end the week with new homes! (Paws crossed.) Below are some photos from the Say/Dogster booth — we hear it was the hit of the conference!

Vintage Photos

I’m often asked why I love Saint Bernards so much.  I really seem to struggle with a good, concise answer.  To be honest, I have always been drawn to them, their size and fluffy fur despite being from the generation that refers to Saint Bernards as “Cujo” (yes I know that dates me).  These days kids/people see them and shreek out “BEETHOVEN” – yes, just like Beethoven.  This of course is immediately followed up with “does he slobber as much as Beethoven?”  They do drool, but not like that!

One day I was going through a box of old photos and I came across this old 8×10 black and white photo from my first Christmas.  My dad is holding me next to my first present, Bernie the GIANT stuffed Saint Bernard.

Even though I didnt have my first “real” saint until I was in my 30's, I think I’d have to say my love of saints was definitely imprinted on me from birth.  Thanks Daddy!

The second photo is of me when I was about 18 months old with the same Bernie.  I had that stuffed animal for several years.  I dont know what ever happened to it though.
